Job Title: Executive Director
Reports To: Chief and Council
Position Summary
Reporting to
Chief and Council (C&C), the Executive Director (ED) will oversee the
development and ongoing implementation of the general administration, financial
management and human resources for Matachewan First Nation (MFN). This role is
responsible for the management for all MFN departments and programs,
information and communication systems, financial planning and reporting, day-to-day
operations and being an advisor to C&C.
Term: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:30AM – 4:30PM, with flexibility to work on weekends and evenings
Location: Matachewan First Nation and surrounding areas
Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000 annually
Benefits: Employer-paid benefits package and enrollment in pension plan
Start Date: As soon as possible
Areas of Responsibility
- Operations
- Manage MFN operations and assume all responsibilities of Band Administrator in a way that is consistent and il alignment with C&C goals and direction.
- Ensure all MFN operations are conducted within relevant legislation policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs.
- Manage MFN staff, equipment, property and facilities.
- Coordinate with staff to ensure programs are delivered adequately and funds are expended appropriately.
- Develop proposals and submit applications for funding.
- Ensure filing and record keeping systems are established and maintained.
- Develop and implement Admin Policy.
- Develop and implement Land Policy.
- Finance
- Oversee and supervise all financial operations of MFN including budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Human Resources
- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate department staff.
- Ensure proper staff evaluations are conducted in consistent and timely manner.
- Initiate corrective action when necessary.
- Prepare and provide staff updates to C&C on a regular basis.
- Update and implement HR Policy.
- Lead regular staff meetings.
- Chief and Council Support
- Attend all C&C meetings, community meetings and other meetings as directed.
- Prepare the agenda, communications, and information for attendees.
- Maintain and circulate minutes.
- Act as a liaison between C&C, staff and band members.
- Work with C&C to develop plans, budgets, codes and policies.
- Provide C&C with adequate resources to achieve their goals.
- Other duties as assigned by C&C.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Management, or related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in administrative or management roles.
- Knowledge of First Nation governance and funding structures is an asset.
- Strong leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Able to work methodically and accurately, with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Accepted recent Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License.
