Human Resource Assistant
Department: Administration
Reports to: Human Resource/ Executive Director
Location: 310 Pentateuch Apitipi Anicinapek Nation
Position Summary
The Human Resource Assistant provides administrative and coordination support to the Human Resource Department. This position helps ensure that employees and leadership receive effective, respectful, and culturally grounded HR services.
The HR Assistant supports recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and employee relations while promoting a positive and inclusive workplace that reflects Indigenous values and community priorities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Administrative and Clerical Support
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee records and files.
- Prepare correspondence, employment contracts, and reports as needed.
- Assist with benefits, pension, and payroll information.
- Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
- Assisting processing payroll and review timesheets
2. Recruitment and Onboarding
- Assist with job postings, advertising, scheduling interviews, and reference checks.
- Help coordinate new employee onboarding and orientation.
- Ensure welcoming processes that honour community protocols and respect cultural diversity.
3. Employee Relations and Communication
- Respond to employee inquiries in a respectful, confidential manner.
- Promote positive workplace relationships built on trust, respect, and accountability.
- Support the HR Manager with employee engagement and wellness initiatives.
4. Training and Development
- Assist in planning and tracking staff training and professional development.
- Coordinate cultural awareness and safety training sessions.
- Maintain training records and certificates for all employees.
5. Cultural and Community Support
- Participate in community events and ceremonies as appropriate.
- Help ensure HR practices reflect the organization’s values, culture, and traditions.
- Support ongoing efforts to Indigenize HR policies and create a culturally safe workplace.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience in an Indigenous organization or community setting is an asset.
- Knowledge of employment standards, benefits, and HR best practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills (Microsoft Office, HRIS systems).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Commitment to teamwork, respect, and community well-being.

Working Conditions
- Full-time, office-based position (35 hours/week).
- Some travel or participation in community events may be required.
